Amber Melgoza tied Santa Barbara High great Holly Ford for the most points in a game, scoring 45 in a 69-61 win over Pacifica in the final pool play game at the Gold Coast Tournament on Friday at Rio Mesa.
Ford, a prep All-American for the Dons who went on to star at USC, set the record in 1984.
Melgoza was in the zone on Friday as she made 17 of 25 shots. She scored 32 points in the first half. She also grabbed 10 rebounds.
“To score 45 on 25 shots is pretty spectacular,” Santa Barbara coach Andrew Butcher said. “She had a great game.” Melgoza was coming off a 37-point game on Thursday night.
Jada Howard added 12 points and five assists and Jocelin Petatan had eight points and seven rebounds for Santa Barbara (6-0)
The game was a bit of a struggle for the Dons as they committed 24 turnovers.
Santa Barbara will play Rio Mesa for the tournament championship at 6 p.m. Saturday at Rio Mesa.
