Celso Lagunas notched two goals and Brandon Sanchez recorded two assists in Santa Barbara High’s 5-0 shutout of Culver City on Friday at the South Torrance Tournament.
Tanner Mees, Alejandro Munoz and Alvaro Lopez also scored for the Dons. Peter Ruiz had an assist. Sanchez set up two of the Dons’ first three goals in his first appearance of the season.
It was Santa Barbara’s fifth shutout in seven games this season. Keeper Angel Cervantes picked up the clean sheet with big help from defenders Carlos Hernandez, Alonso Salamanca, Freddy Pacheco and Sutter Munizich.
The Dons’ second-round game is against Lawndale at 9:30 a.m.
The Dons won the South Torrance Tournament in 2009 and 2010, and have reached the semifinals in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
