Santa Barbara High rebounded from a semifinal loss against Paso Robles with a 4-0 rout of Lompoc in the third-place match at the Cats & Hounds boys soccer tournament in Atascadero on Saturday.
Carlos Rodriguez, Alvaro Lopez, Peter Ruiz and Jorge Garcia Torres scored for the Dons and Saul Donato and Adrian Gamez had assists. Goalkeeper Robert Soto recorded his second shutout, and team posted its third.
“We responded well after the loss in the semis and I thought the boys showed a lot of motivation to make sure we ended the tournament with a 3-1 record,” said Santa Barbara coach Todd Heil.
The Dons lost 2-0 to Paso Robles on a muddy pitch.
“We just didn’t adapt to the field conditions as well as Paso Robles did and that was the difference in the game,” said Heil.
