Brandon Gama has been appointed Head Boys Golf Coach at Bishop Diego.
Gama will replace Matt Capritto who stepped down to pursue a local business opportunity. Capritto has served the Bishop Community as teacher and coach for the past 10 years, working as the director of football operations, Head Track Coach, Assistant Boys Basketball Coach, and Head Golf Coach. Last year Coach Capritto was recognized as the Frontier League Boys Golf Coach of the Year after directing the Boys Golf team to their first league championship in 26 years.
Bishop Athletic Director Dan Peeters stated, “Matt has been an invaluable asset to the Bishop community for the past decade. His commitment and dedication to serving Bishop student athletes has been exceptional; I wish him continued success going forward.”
Gama, a Bishop alumnus, served as Capritto’s assistant last year and is a very accomplished player. Brandon received MVP honors as a senior at Bishop and was awarded first team recognition while staring at SBCC for two years. After SBCC, he received a scholarship to play at Chico State where he became an All-American. In 2008 Gama won the Santa Barbara City Championship shooting a record 17-under par; this record still stands today.
Peeters stated, “I am thrilled to bring Gama aboard and am excited about the direction of the program.”
