Ryan McCarthy buried a pair of long 3-pointers late in overtime on Tuesday, helping San Marcos claim a 60-57 victory over Calabasas at the #D1Bound SoCal Christmas Classic.
McCarthy, who finished with 16 points, gave the Royals a 58-57 lead with back-to-back 3-balls. The second one came with 45 seconds left in the extra period.
“We were very pleased with the boys effort tonight. We overcame adversity all game long, which is something that we have talked about doing in the past but never could seem to do it until tonight,” reported Royals head coach Landon Boucher. “Special night for the boys.”
Scott Everman matched McCarthy’s 16 points for the team lead. Kele Mkpado and Connor Everman added 12 points each.
“Connor Everman was huge for us tonight, he hit very important shots, but also played a key role in our defensive scheme,” Boucher said.
San Marcos, after a 2-2 showing at the tournament, improves to 10-4 while Calabasas falls to 9-5. The Royals play next on Jan. 3 at San Juan Hills High School versus Corona del Mar.
