Max Henderson caught fire from downtown for Santa Barbara High’s boys basketball team on Monday, dropping five 3-pointers in the Dons’ 80-47 victory over Nordhoff at the Jim Bashore Tournament.
The Dons will play city rival San Marcos for the tournament championship on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
San Marcos defeated Bishop Diego, 54-42, to finish unbeaten in its pool.
Henderson, who finished with a team-high 17 points, made 5-7 attempts from long range. The Dons as a team made nearly as many 3-point baskets (14) as 2-point field goals (17).
Santa Barbara featured four players scoring in double digits. Bolden Brace had 14, Ben Clay 11 and Chris Wagonhurst 10.
Nordhoff led 17-15 after the first quarter. A 21-9 run in the second quarter for Santa Barbara put the Dons in front for good.
Bishop Diego was down by just three points in the fourth quarter, but the inside game of Kele Mkpado and Scott Everman helped San Marcos pull away down the stretch.
Mkpado scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and Everman added 13 points Tyslon Miller scored eight points in the final period and Mkpado notched six in the quarter.
Marcos Schneider scored 15 points and Alexis Herrera had nine for the Cardinals, who play Laguna Blanca at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
