Kaitlyn Clemann collected 11 kills and Katelynn Womack had a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs on Wednesday night, leading No. 12 SBCC to a 3-0 women’s volleyball sweep at No. 20 Moorpark in a battle for first in the WSC North. The scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-14.
The Vaqueros (17-5, 8-1) swept Moorpark for the second time this year to improve to 8-1 on the road. It was the second straight win and 13th in 14 matches for SBCC, which is seeking its third straight conference crown. The Raiders fell to 9-9 and 6-2.
Taylor Badois had eight kills and four blocks. She had no hitting errors for a sparkling .421 percentage. Alissa La Rocca added five kills and Paige Sabin had three kills and three blocks.
Eryn Young notched 14 digs and two aces and Sydney Kantor had 11 digs. Setter Madelon Leiphardt had 37 assists, eight digs and two kills.
“It was a very good win at Moorpark, which is always a tough place to play,” said coach Ed Gover, after the 299th win of his 24-year career. “We played steady and our serving was great.”
The Vaqueros built a 14-3 lead in the second set before the Raiders rallied to within one with a 10-0 run. Jane Petricka had a solid service run to create separation on the scoreboard.
The third set followed a similar pattern with SBCC jumping ahead and Moorpark catching up. Young and Womack had good serving runs and Kantor played great defense, according to Gover.
After a bye on Friday, the Vaqueros will host Ventura on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
