(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Fifth-ranked and top-seeded Westmont (13-2) has learned its opponent for Friday’s Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer semifinal game. The Warriors will host the Hawks of San Diego Christian (7-8-2). Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
The sixth-seeded Hawks earned their way into the GSAC Tournament by defeating #20 Concordia (11-7-1) on the final day of the regular season. In today’s first round game, San Diego Christian upset #12 The Master’s by a score of 2-0 to advance to the semifinals.
In the other first round game, Biola (13-5) posted a 3-0 win over Concordia. Biola will face #11 Vanguard (15-2-1) in the other semifinal game. The winners of the semifinals will meet up on Friday, November 14 to decide the GSAC Tournament champion and recipient of the conference’s automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship.
In the previous meeting between Westmont and San Diego Christian on September 24, the visiting Warrior posted a 3-2 win. Westmont went up 2-0 in the first half on the strength of two goals by All-GSAC forward Kelsie Steck.
San Diego Christian answered with two quick goals in the early minutes of the second half – one by Sammantha Schmidt and one by Vivian Oray. The scored remained tied a two until the 75th minute when Steck completed a hat trick by scoring the game winner.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Steck has been sidelined with an injury and may be unavailable for Friday’s game.
The Warriors are on a six game winning streak dating back to October 4 and a 4-0 win over Hope International.
