WBK: Oregon handles Westmont with ease

For the second Sunday in a row, Westmont Women’s Basketball (2-0) played an exhibition game against a PAC-12 opponent. Today, the Warriors played at Oregon (0-0) and fell 81-44.

The Warriors’ Kristin Karr opened the scoring with a three-point bucket and later added two free throws to give Westmont a 5-2 lead just over two minutes into the opening frame. The Ducks responded with a layup by Jillian Alleyne and a three-pointer by Lexi Bando to take a 7-5 advantage.

Esther Lee then hit from beyond the arc to give the Warriors what turned out to be their final lead of the game. The Ducks went on an 11-2 run to take an 18-10 advantage with 13 minutes left in the first half.

Westmont kept the score differential to single digits over the next three minutes, but the Ducks eventually built a 45-20 halftime margin from which the Warriors never recovered.

Aysia Shellmire tallied six points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Warriors while Kalrie Storkson added another six points to the Warriors’ totals. Lauren McCoy and Kristen Karr each contributed five points to the Warriors’ cause.

Westmont returns to regular season play tomorrow when they take on NAIA opponent Northwest Christian in Eugene on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
