The Dos Pueblos boys and San Marcos girls captured the team titles at the Santa Barbara County cross country championships at River Park in Lompoc.
DP and Cabrillo shared top honors with 71 points but the Chargers were declared the boys champions based on the higher finish of their sixth runner.
San Marcos, behind the 1-2 finish of Erica Schroeder and Adilene Aldapa, scored 35 points to edge out Dos Pueblos, which finished second with 43 points.
Schroeder, a sophomore, used an all-out sprint over the last 100 yards to overtake Aldapa and win the three-mile race in 18 minutes, 22 seconds. Aldapa, a senior, was timed in 18:23. In a battle of sophomore runners, DP’s Christina Rice came in third in 18:42, Santa Barbara’s Ruth Hunter was fourth in 18:44 and Natalie McClure of DP came in fifth in 18:51. DP seniors Elaine McClure (19:06) and Tatianna Schluep (19:20) placed sixth and seventh, followed by Elsa Robertson of San Marcos (19:25), Kiana Kawatachi of St. Joseph (19:26) and Emily Pearlman of San Marcos (19:29) to round up the top 10. Cate’s Charlotte Monke finished 12th (19:50).
Carpinteria’s Mikela Keefer won the girls JV race in 20:12.
In the boys varsity race, senior Anthony Tyler of Cabrillo took top honors with a time of 15:24. Chris Wasjutin of Dos Pueblos finished second in 15:46 and Alec DeLeon of Righetti was third in 15:54.
DP’s six runners finished in the top 40. Freshman Josh McGregor was 8th (16:09), Nathan Alvarez 12th (16:17), Jerimiah McElwee 23rd (16:41), Dustin Oaks 26th (16:43) and Jacob Stucky 38th (17:05).
Logan Briner was San Marcos’ top finisher in sixth in 16:00. Will Walter was 18th for Santa Barbara (16:32). Cate’s Kyril Van Schendel came in 14th (16:25)
