Katie Hodson, a junior at Providence High School and a middle blocker for the volleyball team, received the Phil Womble Ethic in Sports Award at the Athletic Round Table press luncheon on Monday.
“Coaching Katie Hodson has been an absolute privilege,” said volleyball coach Laura Newton. “She only started playing volleyball two years ago and has become an outstanding hitter, passer and server. This season, Katie leads our team in kills, blocks and digs.”
The Patriots finished second in the Condor League and are having the best season in the school’s history. Hodson is also a track & field athlete in the spring who competes in the high jump.
“She embodies the ideal athlete. She’s a competitor who always brings her top game to practice and to games. She understands that hard work at practice leads to improvement in games,” Newton said.
She’s also a great teammate.
“Katie can always be counted on to keep it positive on the court regardless of the outcome of the game. Her teammates benefit from her constant encouragement,” Newton said.
Hodson, accompanied by her mother Rebecca, has volunteered at the Rescue Mission and is a member of Providence’s chamber singers and is on her church’s worship team. She is also class president.
