Cate’s history-making girls volleyball season came to end Saturday in the semifinal round of the CIF Southern Regionals at La Reina in Thousand Oaks
The Rams were swept by the Regents, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20, and end their season at 24-2.
La Reina is a really good team; they were solid,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “Anytime they were out of system they got back in system, which is what we couldn’t do.”
The Regents feasted on Cate free balls and answered with kills.
“With a team like La Reina, you can’t be free balling them over the net,” said Novak.
Peyton Shelburne led the Rams with 10 kills, while Maddie Becker and Delaney Mayfield added seven apiece
Cate captured the CIF-Southern Section Division 4A title, its first section title since 1991. The Rams won their first-ever state tournament match, outlasting Fowler in the opening round.
La Reina was runner-up in Division 4AA.
“All in all it was a great season,” Novak said. “We went further than we ever gone with the state playoffs. We had a great season.”
