After beating the No. 3 seed to the reach the semifinals, adding the No. 2 seed to the list didn’t happen on Wednesday for Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team in a 12-6 loss to University.
University will face Peninsula on Friday for the CIF Division-1 Championship.
The match was tied after the first round but the Dons fell off the pace after that. University gained an 8-4 lead after two rounds and clinched the match early in the third round.
Santa Barbara was led by a three-set sweep in doubles by Madison Hale and Lexy Gulden. Cade Sorensen and Marianna Alevra won a set as Santa Barbara claimed four points total from its doubles lineup.
In singles, Summer Garrison’s 2-1 day rounded out Santa Barbara’s scoring.
By reaching the Division-1 semis, the Dons have automatically qualified for the CIF Southern Regional tournament next week. It includes teams from CIF Central and Southern Sections, San Diego, and the L.A. City Section.
