Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team made program history on Tuesday, winning its first match in the CIF Southern Regional Championships. The Dons defeated Granada Hills, the L.A. City Section runner-up, 6-1.
Santa Barbara, a CIF-Southern Section Division 1 semifinalist, advances to the quarterfinals at the Claremont Club, where it faces No. 2 seed Torrey Pines of the San Diego Section.
The Dons’ three doubles teams all won in straight sets and Summer Garrison, Madison Hale and Cade Sorenson were victorious in singles.
The matches were best of three-sets.
“I was impressed with how our girls handled the different format,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “This was our last home match and our team, especially our seniors, were committed to making sure their last home match was a victory. We had a great crowd and our girls were focused from start to finish.”
The Dons (17-5) will play Torrey Pines on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
“Torrey Pines will be a big challenge for us but I am looking forward to seeing how our team competes with one of the best teams in California,” said Tebbe.
