On a day when voters are picking new leaders at the polls, Bishop Diego announced a change of the guard in the Cardinals softball program as John Ceriale has been officially named the new head coach.
Ceriale is a Bishop alum and has been an assistant softball coach at Bishop for the past ten years.
Ceriale takes over for Dr. Tom Beamer, who led the varsity from 2002 to 2014. Beamer, the Frontier League Coach of the Year in 2010, steps down after 13 seasons as head coach. Jim Burkey, an assistant to Beamer for all 13 years, will also step away.
“Tom has done a tremendous job of building a quality program, and has always lead with integrity and class,” stated Bishop Diego Athletic Director Dan Peeters. “I want to thank both Tom and Jim for their dedication and service to the softball program; they will be missed and have left the program in great shape.”
Bishop Diego reached the CIF playoffs in two of the past three seasons.
