Ventura repeated as team champions at Wednesday’s Channel League Meet at Arroyo Verde Park, but new individual leaders emerged.
San Marcos’ Erica Schroeder was bested by Ventura freshman Sophia Ramos, who improved her place from the previous league meet by eight spots. Ramos’ winning time was 19 minutes and 30 seconds compared to Schroeder’s 19:48.
Andrew Witt and Kaleb Kunes switched places in the boys race. The Buena teammates finished 1-2 again with Witt’s time of 16:15 setting the pace. Ventura then filled up the No. 3 through No. 7 positions to earn the team win.
Hunter Clark was Dos Pueblos’ top male. Clark, a sophomore, came in eighth place, followed by Nathan Alvarez’s 10th and Chris Wasjutin’s 11th.
San Marcos’ Keeton Shinn, in 15th overall, and Santa Barbara High’s Will Walter, in 17th, led their respective teams.
San Marcos’ girls team edged Dos Pueblos for second place with 51 points to 61. Adilene Aldapa’s fourth overall gave the Royals a second top-five result. All five Royals scorers came in the top 16.
Dos Pueblos’ Elaine McClure placed third to lead the Chargers girls. Two sophomores, Christina Rice and Natalie McClure, came in 6th and 7th.
