Kyril Van Schendel and Charlotte Monke paced Cate’s cross country team on Thursday at the second Tri-Valley League meet of the season.
Hosted at Thacher School in Ojai, Monke recorded a fifth-place result in the girls race while Van Schendel, a freshman, was seventh in the boys race. Monke’s time was 20 minutes and 43 seconds while Van Schendel was timed at 17:08.
Van Schendel, who did not compete at the first league meet, lifted the boys team to fifth place in the team standings. Rei Imada’s 23rd place, in 18:09, and junior Jack Pruitt’s 25th in 18:28, trailed Van Schendel.
Cate had another freshman with a top-20 showing. Isabela Montes de Oca was second on the girls team with a time of 22:04 to put her in 17th. Senior captain Rainbow Wang came in 29th with a time of 22:38.
Cate’s next meet is this weekend at the Mt. SAC Invitational.
