Sophomore Alex Heuchert finished fourth in a field of 124 runners on Friday in the SBCC Invitational men’s cross country meet at Leadbetter Beach and Shoreline Park.
Heuchert clocked 22:06 on the 4-mile course that started at Leadbetter Beach and looped up and around Shoreline Park twice. Ryan Sorenson, who ran for San Marcos High like Heuchert, was seventh in 22:19.
“Our men had a good day,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “Alex and Ryan placing in the top 10 was a very good start for us. Then our next 3 were very solid. Last week we were 40 points behind Cuesta and 16 ahead of Citrus. Today we were 30 behind Cuesta (who also ran very well) and nearly 70 ahead of Citrus.
“We are still working hard and on track for our goals at the State Meet. It was good to see a lot of families out here supporting their kids.”
Glendale took the team title with 78 points, edging Cuesta (82) and Mt. San Antonio (95). The Vaqueros were fifth in the 13-team field at 110. Connor Fisher of Cuesta was the individual champion in 21:26.
Adam Grimmitt was 26th for the Vaqueros in 23:12 and Bradley Apodaca finished 32nd in 23:26.
