Michaela Dahringer ran 21:31 on the 5K course on Friday to take 17th in the SBCC Invitational women’s cross country meet at Shoreline Park. Kylie Walker was 29th in 22:25 for the Vaqueros, who placed seventh out of 10 teams with 147 points.
Glendale won the women’s title with 32 points, placing six runners in the top 14. Mt. San Antonio was second at 61 in the race that began on the sand of Leadbetter Beach. Yesenia Silva of Sequoias set a course record with an 18:50 clocking that was 20 seconds faster than Laura Aceves of East Los Angeles in a possible preview of the state individual championship.
Dean Roell took 31st for the Vaqueros in 22:29.
“Michaela had another very strong performance,” noted SBCC coach Scott Fickerson. “As a first-year cross country runner, she is still learning a lot each week and is continuing to improve. Dean had a minute improvement from her time at the SBCC Invitational two years ago when she last competed for us, so that’s a great accomplishment.
“I’m happy for the women and am looking forward to seeing them put it all together in the post-season.”
SBCC will compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday at 10 a.m.
