Katelynn Womack posted her third straight double-double on Wednesday and setter Madelon Leiphardt had a career-high eight kills to guide No. 8 SBCC past Bakersfield 3-1 in the Vaqueros’ final nonconference women’s volleyball match. The scores were 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22.
It was the fifth straight win for the Vaqueros (9-4). Bakersfield fell to 4-8.
Womack, a freshman outside hitter from Rio Mesa High, collected 15 kills and 11 digs. Kaitlyn Clemann added 10 kills. Leiphardt, this week’s WSC Player of the Week, had eight kills, nine digs and 32 assists.
“Maddie kept them off-balance with her timely kills,” said coach Ed Gover. “It’s always tough playing at Bakersfield and they have one of the best coaches in Southern Cal in Carl Ferreira. It took us a couple of sets to get used to what Carl was trying to do. Then we steadied out and settled down.”
Taylor Badois had six kills and three blocks while Paige Sabin recorded five blocks, including two solo. Tristen Thompson had 18 digs and Eryn Young contributed 15 digs and three aces.
The Vaqueros will start their bid for a third straight WSC North title and fifth in six years when they travel to L.A. Pierce on Friday for a 7 p.m. match. SBCC is 49-5 in its last 54 conference matches.
