EL CAJON, Calif. – The Westmont women’s volleyball team added another victory to their now four-match winning streak this afternoon against San Diego Christian College (25-23, 25-21, 25-15).
It was a game held down by defense but propelled by offense. With the team tallying 11 blocks, 38 digs and 41 kills, it was a very well rounded match by everyone on the court.
Offensively, senior Madison Serrano led the charge with eight kills and zero errors on just 15 attempts, earning an impressive .533 hitting percentage.
“Madison had another outstanding game to round out a successful road trip for her. Having no errors for the entire match is very impressive,” marveled head coach Patti Cook.
In the last two matches, Serrano has earned a grand total of 25 kills to help lead the team to victory.
Jessica McCann’s effort on the pin is not to be overlooked in today’s match. With seven kills, she was a force to be reckoned with. “Jessica was hammering balls and their defense had no answer to her nice high swings,” explained Cook.
Westmont’s dynamic duo, Colburn and Maricic, were wreaking havoc in the middle. They combined for 15 total kills and six blocks this afternoon. “Ciena and Mila did a great job blocking and got their hands on a lot of attacks,” said Cook.
With San Diego Christian’s outside hitter Ashley Simpson getting most of the teams swings on the pin, it was up to Westmont’s defense to slow them down. Thankfully, behind the solid block in the front, was a set and ready defense. Serrano accounted for 11 digs, while Troesh and Thompson each earned six.
This victory closes out a successful three day road trip for the Warriors. They now start a series of home games, the first of which is this Tuesday at 5PM against CSU San Marcos.
