Westmont erupted for three goals during a 10-minute span early in the second half and went on to defeat fifth-ranked Concordia, 4-1, handing the Eagles their first loss in GSAC women’s soccer play on Saturday at Thorrington Field.
Mallory Mitchell fed Tiffany Dimaculangan for the go-ahead score in the 48th minute. Four minutes later, Mitchell found Kelsey Steck and she finished her shot for a 3-1 Westmont lead. Jackie Lopez continued her hot playing, scoring off an assist from Sophie Fuller in the 58th minute. The freshman from Santa Barbara High has tallied four goals in her last three matches.
The result leaves 12th-ranked Westmont at 5-2 in the GSAC and 10-3 overall. Concordia is 5-1-1 and 11-3-1.
The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Kaci Mexico in the second minute. Mexico took a feed from Courtney Stonesifer and ripped a shot over the head of Concordia goalie Jazmin Alvarez.
Concordia equalized in the 12th minute on an unassisted goal by Alexis Garcia-Irons.
Westmont goalie Lauren Dorn played a solid game, making six saves.
