Santa Barbara City College had numerous chances to score in the second half on Friday but couldn’t snap a 1-1 tie with Moorpark in a WSC North women’s soccer match.
The Raiders scored in the 26th minute and the Vaqueros (5-3-3, 2-0-2) answered in the 32nd when Alex Abbott headed in a corner from Hannah Martin. Moorpark is 0-5-5 and 0-1-3.
The ball rolled near the Moorpark goal line on several occasions and Sandy Grimaldo came close to scoring twice, according to coach John Sisterson. Marissa Stone drilled a shot over the cross bar.
In the 80th minute, Grimaldo was brought down in the box. Her penalty kick bounced off the bar and Jackie Hollmer pounced on the rebound but hit it over the top of the goal from close range.
Fourteen of SBCC’s 17 shots were on goal.
“We should have won this one, it just wasn’t our day,” said coach John Sisterson.
The Vaqueros host Cuesta on Tuesday at La Playa Stadium with kick-off at 2 p.m.
