Kaitlyn Crooker and Aimee Ryan scored two goals apiece on Friday night as SBCC cruised past Oxnard 6-0 in a WSC women’s soccer match at La Playa Stadium.
Crooker, a sophomore transfer from NCAA Div. 1 Grand Canyon, took a pass from Giana Zembo in the 18th minute, dribbled around a defender and beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Lena Gustafsson blasted one in from 35 yards out with 20 seconds left in the opening half to boost the margin to 2-0. The Vaqueros (5-3-1, 2-0) blew the game open with two scores in the first five minutes of the second half.
Laura Romero grabbed the rebound of a shot by Hannah Martin and scored in the 46th minute. Four minutes later, Jackie Hollmer made a nice run up the middle and delivered a through ball to Crooker, who scored her eighth goal of the season to make it 4-0.
Crooker has four two-goal games in the last six matches. The Vaqueros poured in 14 goals in two wins this week. They’ve won their last three games by a combined 15-0.
“Our offense is pretty fast compared to a lot of other teams,” said Crooker, who leads the team with eight goals and 19 points. “We have really technical forwards and we’re really good at finishing the ball.”
Ryan scored in the 80th minute on a rebound of a Michelle Day shot and in the 87th minute on a header off a corner kick from Hannah Martin.
SBCC outshot Oxnard 29-5 and didn’t allow a shot in the second half. The Vaqueros had a season-high 19 shots on-goal.
“I always knew our offense was going to come,” said 10th-year coach John Sisterson. “The girls always had the ability to go forward and score goals and that’s what we’ve been working on. We told them to be brave and they went out and did that.
“Kaitlyn is tremendous. She’s dangerous running into the box. Everyone played well tonight and they all enjoyed themselves. I’m happy for the girls.”
The Vaqueros hope to extend their win streak to four when they travel to L.A. Pierce on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
