Archbishop Mitty brings another powerful girls volleyball team to the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions this weekend at Santa Barbara High.
A 10-time CIF State champion, Mitty is the alma mater of three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings.
The player to watch on this year’s squad is 6-4 senior Alexa Dreyer. The UCLA-bound Dreyer has led the team to a 25-1 record and a No. 1 national ranking by MaxPreps.
Here is a list of other players to check out during the two-day tournament:
Second-seeded Torrey Pines (19-4) has a Pac-12 recruit in Savannah Rennie. The 6-2 outside hitter is headed to Cal. She is a lethal hitter, posting an impressive .386 kill average.
Outside hitter and Colorado State commit Katie Craig leads third-seeded Corona del Mar (18-3).
Perennial power Mira Costa (19-6), the fourth seed, has a standout all-around player in Pepperdine-bound Skylar Caputo.
Senior setter Sophia Coffey leads a fifth-seeded Flintridge Sacred Heart team that returns most of the players off a squad that advanced to the CIF-SS 1A semifinals last year.
North Coast Section power Campolindo (22-5) rides the hitting of 6-1 Kirsten Sibley.
La Costa Canyon has a talented sophomore in 6-1 Jamie McQuarrie.
Tenth-seeded Valley Christian of San Jose has a hammer in 6-3 Ronika Stone. She’s put away nearly 300 kills this season.
