SBCC lost a man to a red card and then suffered a 1-0 WSC men’s soccer loss to L.A. Mission in sweltering heat on Friday at the Sepulveda Sports Basin Complex in Van Nuys.
Haydn Dickinson was dealt a red card after he appeared to be hit in the head in the 19th minute. “We felt it was a very harsh decision,” said Vaquero coach John Sisterson.
One minute later, the Eagles scored the only goal of the game, which was played in 105-degree heat. Mission improved to 6-1-2 and 4-0-1 in conference while the Vaqueros fell to 3-7 and 2-3.
Sisterson said his team outshot the home team 30-7 with 12 shots on-goal.
“We played very well,” he noted. “It’s disappointing to lose a player under these circumstances. Even with 10 men and the extreme heat, we always looked like we would win. Their goalie made four good saves in the second half.”
