SBCC took a 3-1 lead early in the second half on Friday afternoon but Santa Monica rallied for two goals in a 10-minute span to tie the Vaqueros 3-3 in a WSC men’s soccer match at Santa Monica.
It was the first tie of the year for the Vaqueros (4-7-1, 3-3-1). Omar Montalvo and Jonathan Mora scored first-half goals on assists by Aaron Aaberg and Barney Hitchcock to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Mora, a former Santa Barbara High standout, notched his second goal in the 52nd minute after some nice work in the penalty area by Mehdi Badache. The Corsairs (3-6-3, 3-2-2) tied it, however, with goals in the 68th and 78th minutes.
“We shot ourselves in the foot,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson. “We were up 3-1, then we made some errors in the midfield. We brought in Richard (Caine) and Kieron (Coleman) for more energy but we couldn’t find the net.”
SBCC had 13 shots, including 10 on goal.
