Laguna Blanca’s Condor League eight-man football opener got away from it in the first half as the Owls committed four turnovers that led to 46 unanswered points by Orcutt Academy in a 58-14 loss on Friday at Righetti High.
The loss ended a four-game win streak for the Owls (4-1, 0-1). Orcutt Academy is 5-0, 1-0.
The Owls took an 8-6 lead after a Stephen McCaffery 1-yard touchdown pass to Robert Estrada and a two-point conversion. But Orcutt Academy took charge for the rest of the half. The Spartans took the lead on a run by Darin Miller and capitalized on a turnover for another score to take a 22-8 advantage. Miller scampered for a third straight touchdown to make it 30-8.
Orcutt boosted its lead to 52-8 by halftime.
McCaffery and Estrada hooked up for the Owls’ second touchdown in the fourth quarter.
