Laguna Blanca made a defensive stand in the red zone in the fourth quarter and then drove for a game-clinching touchdown in a 36-19 Condor League football win over visiting Villanova Prep on Saturday.
The Owls were leading 28-19 when they stopped Villanova on fourth-and-1 at the 12-yard line with 5:58 left in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Stephen McCaffery then led the team on a 68-yard drive that ate up four minutes of the clock. He capped the drive and sealed the win with a touchdown pass to Robert Estrada.
McCaffery also threw TD passes to Pierce O’Donnell and Ryan Bickett, and rushed for a score.
Parker Rusack played a solid game, recovering two fumbles and running for a touchdown.
Laguna Blanca (5-1, 1-1) travels to Cate (4-2, 1-1) next Saturday. Owls coach Shane Lopes will be looking for his first win against the Rams.
