Recent history has not been kind to San Marcos’ girls volleyball team playing on the road at Ventura.
That’s why Thursday’s 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22 Channel League victory was such a feel-good result. It was the Royals’ first win there in five years.
More good news was Chloe Allen’s return to the court after missing Tuesday’s game with an ankle sprain. Still not at 100 percent, Allen played libero.
Anika Wilson shined for the Royals. Finishing with a .380 hitting percentage, Wilson committed just one error on 50 attempts.
“Anika Wilson was the heart of our team tonight, she led our fire,” reported Royals head coach Erica Downing. “The best I have seen her play.”
Middle Emma Harrah and setter Gabi Peoples played key roles in the victory.
San Marcos’ league record evens out at 2-2 with Buena next Thursday.
