Santa Barbara High posted an important Channel League girls volleyball win over visiting Buena on Thursday night, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20.
With the victory, the Dons snapped a two match losing streak and finish the first round of league play at 2-2, one game behind first-place Dos Pueblos and Ventura, both 3-1.
Lourda Weger and Tatum Vedder paced the Santa Barbara attack with 17 and 14 kills, respectively. Jessyca Beksa added nine kills. Caroline Anderson and Katie Gallivan were solid in the middle, according to coach John Gannon.
“Caroline and Katie touched a lot of balls and got a few blocks,” he said.
Stella Gnaidek, called up from the JV team, handled setting duties and finished with 17 assists.
Gannon acknowledged the importance of the win.
“We played great team defense and played great as a team. It’s a really good win for the Santa Barbara High program,” he said.
The Dons travel to San Diego this weekend to compete in the California Challenge.
