Mira Costa defeated Santa Barbara High on Friday afternoon by the slimmest of margins, claiming the victory on a 70-69 advantage in games won after the match was tied 9-9 in sets.
Mira Costa is ranked No. 8 in CIF Division 1 while the Dons are No. 4.
“Our girls played their hearts out and while this is a tough one to lose, it was a thrilling match to be a part of,” reported Dons head coach Greg Tebbe. “I was proud of the way we competed from start to finish.”
Mattea Kilstofte’s unbeaten day in singles and Summer Garrison’s 2-1 effort led Santa Barbara’s singles lineup. Madison Hale and Cade Sorensen teamed together in doubles for a three-set sweep.
The Dons (12-4) play again on Saturday against Dana Hills, another top team in CIF Division 1. The match will be played at Knowlwood Tennis Club in Montecito at 11 a.m.
The Dons have wrapped up the Channel League team title and will be playing in the Channel League Individual Tournament next week.
