Madison Hale and Cade Sorensen teamed to win three doubles sets on Wednesday as Santa Barbara High edged Harvard-Westlake by a game score of 81-69 after a 9-9 draw.
The Dons, ranked No. 4 in CIF Division 1, knocked off its second ranked opponent on the road in the past two weeks. The Wolverines are No. 10.
“They are ranked No. 10 in CIF division 1 and I think they are even better than their ranking,” noted Dons head coach Greg Tebbe. “Whenever you have to travel to play a top 10 team it is always tough to win and I am proud of our girls for fighting for every point and pulling together as a team.”
The Dons and Wolverines were even at 3-3 and at 6-6 after each of the first two rounds of play. Harvard Westlake led 9-8 with one match left on the courts.
The Santa Barbara High doubles team of Lexy Gulden and Brooke Morison won that final set 6-1 to force the 9-9 tie.
