The Carpinteria girls tennis team put together its most complete match of the season and defeated the previously undefeated and CIF Division 5 top-ranked ranked Thacher 13-5 in a Tri-Valley League match on Tuesday
“We were solid in singles and doubles today,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.”Our doubles stayed in the points longer, showed a lot of patience yet were still aggressive. We did a much better job of cutting out our unforced errors and played some good tennis.”
The No. 1 doubles team of Makenna Pike/Natalie Saito swept their three sets. They jumped on the Toads’ No. 1 team in the first round of play and won 6-2. Lesly Zapata/Merissa Souza went 1-1 and then Souza teamed with Elie Morgan to win their last set. At No. 3, Gabi Montes De Oca/Emily Saito went 1-1.
In singles, Kelsie Bryant swept and did not drop a game. She is now 34-0 on the season. No. 2 Madison Cleek went 2-1 as did No. 3 Kathryn Blair.
“I thought they both constructed points well and looked to finish points at
the right time versus forcing the situation,” Bryant said of his second and third singles players. “A much better performance from everyone today.”
Carpinteria is now 9-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the TVL.
