Sierra Faoro came up victorious in the early stages of the Frontier League finals on Tuesday with two consecutive singles wins for the Bishop Diego Cardinals.
No. 3 seeded Faoro breezed through the first round with an 8-0 shutout over Santa Clara’s Aracely Martinez. In the quarterfinals, Faoro’s dominance and determination was tested as she faltered the first set 6-1 against the No. 6 seed Enkela Qoshille from Foothill.
Faoro rallied in the second set and eked a stunning 7-5 win to send the match into a tie-breaker. Her momentum continued as Faoro won 10-4 to secure the match.
With both of the Cardinals’ doubles teams unable to push past the first round and Ellee Braniff knocked down 8-1 to the No. 8 seed, Faoro will advance to the semi-finals on Thursday.
