An almost perfect day for Sierra Faoro of Bishop Diego ended with a loss in singles play at the Frontier League Finals. The Cardinals’ number one singles player was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Libby Kern of Thacher in the championship match on Thursday.
During the semifinal, Faoro upset second-seeded Cara Dienst of Thacher 6-1, 7-6 (4). Faoro took the lead early in the match to the win the first set. During the next match, her focus never wavered as Dienst played more aggressive and began to rush the net. Faoro finished the match with all the momentum swinging in her favor as she dominated the tiebreak 7-4.
“I’m so proud of the way Sierra handled her opponents today. The semifinal victory was the best win of her tennis career,” said Bishop Diego head coach Debbie Ekola.
With the impressive result, Faoro qualifies to participate in the CIF Individual Tournament.
