GLF: DP freshman wins Channel League title

Dos Pueblos' Bella Vigna

Dos Pueblos’ Bella Vigna

Bella Vigna’s 11-stroke lead held up just fine on Tuesday as the Dos Pueblos freshman scored a 79 on Day 2 of the Channel League Girls Golf Championship at Soule Park in Ojai.

Vigna’s two-day score of 149 bettered San Marcos’ Mallory Sestak, another freshman, by 11 strokes. Vigna, who averaged the lowest score throughout the league season, started the two-day tournament with a one-under 70 on Monday. The 79 was Tuesday’s second-best round behind Sestak’s 77.

Dos Pueblos and San Marcos claimed the top 11 spots at the tournament, with the league champion Chargers taking up five of the first six places.

Last year’s individual league champion, Megan Caird, came in third this year with a two-day total of 165. Jamie Sharpe’s 166 was fourth. Vigna, Sestak, Caird and Sharpe all qualify for the CIF Individual Tournament as a result. Miraya Ramirez, in fifth, and Mika Henrickson, in sixth, will serve as CIF alternates.

Rounding out the top 10 on Tuesday were San Marcos’ Alex Pitchford, San Marcos’ Remi Ho, Dos Pueblos’ Macy Broesamle and San Marcos’ Kelsey Gellert.
