Santa Barbara High athletes Junior Garcia and Dane Miller are proof that the best offense can some times be a good defense.
The outstanding defensive performances of Garcia and Miller played a big part in helping their respective teams win rivalry games against Dos Pueblos. And their play is the reason they’ve been chosen as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Garcia, a linebacker/running back for the Dons football team, recovered a fumble and was in on numerous tackles against DP. He also answered the call on offense in overtime, rushing for the winning touchdown in a 28-21 victory.
Miller did her magic on the volleyball court. The senior libero picked up 23 digs — many of them coming on crushing hits — and provided excellent passing to spark Santa Barbara to a three-set sweep at first-place Dos Pueblos.
The female honorable mention choices include Megan Caird (Dos Pueblos golf) and Delaney Mayfield (Cate volleyball).
The other male athletes considered for this week’s award are Danny Molina (Bishop Diego football), Brandon Edwards (SBCC football), Zach Arnell (SBCC football) and George Kuesis (San Marcos water polo).
