Walker Odell and Adilene Aldapa won races on Wednesday at River Park in Lompoc at San Marcos’ cross country season-opener.
Aldapa and the Royals girls team claimed each of the top seven places to earn a perfect score of 15. The Royals boys were almost as dominant, taking five of the top seven places to earn a low score of 20.
Aldapa’s winning individual time was 18:31. The rest of the Royals girls team consists of all freshmen and sophomores. Erica Schroeder was next in 18:45 followed by third-place finisher Mya Adornetto (19:55).
Odell was in front from start to finish and completed the three-mile course in 16:19. San Marcos’ second-place runner, Logan Briner, was in third overall and showed great improvement from the previous season by lowering his PR from last year from 17:58 to 16:34.
Highlights included a handful of personal records to start the season: Keaton Shin, Demetra Rishwain, Leah Urzua, Sierra Aigner, Hannah Terry, Claire Bjork Adrian Perea, Jacob Barrett and Jerry Swider.
The Royals begin Channel League competition next Wednesday at the first league meet held at Dos Pueblos.
