WWP: Fesembeck leads Vaqueros to easy win

Rocio Fesembeck led a balanced attack with four goals and SBCC jumped out to a 7-0 first-quarter lead Wednesday on the way to a 14-2 women’s water polo win at Santa Monica.

It was the first Western State Conference game ever for the Vaqueros’ first-year squad, which improved to 3-6 overall.

AJ Gravatt added three goals while Jessica Leathers, Maddie Brooks and Brittany Thompson had two apiece. Thompson and Paula Tkach had two assists each and Brooks recorded four steals.

“We came out with a lot of energy and showed a lot of improvement with what we’ve been working on in practice,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “I think our girls are finally starting to get to know each other, which is resulting in more continuity in the water.”

Autumn Lovett notched 13 saves in goal.

“It looks like the pieces are starting to come together,” added assistant coach Sierra Peltcher. “We’re doing a good job of executing plays and getting creative in our individual and team games.”

The Vaqueros will make their home debut on Wednesday against L.A. Valley, starting at 5 p.m. at San Marcos High.
