Westmont tuned up for its conference opener by beating Cal State San Marcos in four sets on Monday night in Carlsbad. The set scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 25-23.
“We started out pretty slow, but worked our way out and picked up some speed. Once we started being more aggressive on our attack, things started to go our way,” said Westmont coach Patti Cook.
Tough serving played a big part in the win.
“Lindsay Paulo came off the bench to jump serve for one of our middles and she didn’t miss a single one,” said Cook. “It is extremely difficult to jump serve cold and not make any errors. I was very proud of her courage tonight.”
Paulo’s service ace was one of the nine aces that Westmont racked up in the match.
Ciena Colburn played solid at the net, posing 11 blocks and six kills. Libero Kami Troesh picked up a team-high 24 digs.
With the win, the Warriors progress to 6-6 on the season. Next, they take on No. 2-ranked Concordia at home this Saturday in the GSAC opener.
