SBCC opened the 2014 women’s volleyball season with a pair of sweeps on Saturday at the Bakersfield Quad. The Vaqueros downed Bakersfield 26-24, 25-15, 25-12 in the morning and knocked off Antelope Valley 25-23, 25-12, 25-17.
Freshman outside hitter Katelynn Womack had eight kills and five digs against Bakersfield while Taylor Badois collected six kills and four blocks. Paige Sabin had five kills and Sydney Kantor recorded five digs and two aces.
In the win over AVC, Womack had 10 kills, five digs and three aces. Kaitlyn Clemann drilled seven kills and hit .416. Badois also had seven kills and three blocks with a .357 hitting percentage.
Eryn Young, last year’s WSC North Player of the Year, recorded five digs and two aces. Kantor had five digs and one ace.
“We got excellednt setting by Madelon Leiphardt and great defense from Eryn, Sydney and Tristen Thompson,” said coach Ed Gover.
The Vaqueros will host the Cal Lutheran JV in their home opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
