Rough conditions in the ocean has forced the postponement of the Santa Barbara Channel swim relay by the senior women’s team called the Sea Sprites. The team includes Santa Barbara resident Monica Jones, 73.
The relay was scheduled to begin at midnight Friday. The six swimmers, ages 62 to 76, were going to swim one-hour intervals and cross the 19-mile distance from the Channel Islands to Oxnard.
“The seas were so bad the supply boats were not even going out to the oil platforms near Oxnard,” Jones said in an email.
A new date for the relay has yet to be scheduled. Jones said she is posting updates on her Facebook page: Monica Loose Jones.
