Providence opened its girls volleyball season with a split of two matches in the Bay Area over the weekend.
On Friday, the Patriots defeated St. Thomas More of San Jose in four games. They fell to Woodside Priory in four sets on Saturday.
Maddie Niessen had 10 kills, 11 aces and three assists in a 25-10, 25-22, 21-25,26-24 victory over St. Thomas More. Cody Niessen handed out 14 assists and served four aces in the win. Ozie LeSage contributed six kills and four aces, Katie Hodson added six kills, three aces and two blocks and Maddy Niessen picked up three service aces.
The Patriots lost in four sets at Woodside Priory, the alma mater of coach Laura Newton.
“It was a great match, very good volleyball played by both sides,” Newton said. “Each game was close but Priory took the victory.”
Hidson led the attack for Providence with 12 kills. LeSage and Maddy Niessen added six kills apiece. Cody Niessen had 12 digs and Hodson added seven and two blocks to lead the defense.
