Laguna Blanca won its third straight 8-man football game and its home opener on Saturday beating Coast Union, 62-44.
Ryan Bickett rushed for three touchdowns and Pierce O’Donnell caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Stephen McCaffery. McCaffery also rushed for two scores.
“Offensively, we had more big plays than long, sustainable drives,” Laguna coach Shane Lopes said. “Our defense did not play well as a group. Our special teams units generated some momentum us.”
Robert Estrada returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Anton Homeniuk recovered a fumble that set up another score for the Owls, who improved to 3-0.
Lopes said Coast Union was a big, physical team, but his team rose to the challenge.
“We had a few guys that demonstrated high levels of toughness as they had to play with aches and pains,” he said.
