Organista, Monroy win Carpinteria Triathlon races

Carpinteria local Matt Organista won his hometown triathlon on Sunday, breaking two hours with a balanced race on the Olympic Course of the Carpinteria Triathlon.

Organista’s official time was 1 hour, 59 minutes and 33 seconds. He had no weaknesses, recording the second-fastest leg in all three disciplines. The 25-year-old has been in top shape this summer, winning the short-course race at the Santa Barbara Triathlon in August and the Pier-to-Peak Half Marathon on Labor Day Weekend.

Organista bested runner-up Brett Brown and third-place finisher Stepan Paul. Cuyler Gabriel was fourth and Michael Smedley fifth.

Megan Monroy and Nancy James-Klinger battled to a close first and second place in the women’s race. Monroy, in 16th overall, finished in 2:26.24. James-Klinger was within eyesight and had a time of 2:26.38.

Robert Lyle and Cindy Abrami were sprint-course champions.

Lyle was just short of cracking an hour with his time of 1:00.12. It was enough to beat Adam Rossi by 27 seconds and Gerardo Barrios by 36 seconds. Abrami’s time was 1:03.38 (13th overall).

The top Olympic-distance relay team consisted of swimmer Miles Gaitan, cyclist Ruben Saatjian and runner Josh McGregor. The trio, with an average age of 14, completed the course in 2:07.57.
