Carpinteria’s lack of quarterback play caught up with them on Friday night at Nipomo as the Titans took advantage in a 48-6 non-league outcome.
The Warriors, who lost two quarterbacks to injury in their season opener last week, failed to sustain any offensive momentum and fell behind 41-6 by halftime.
Nipomo’s Matt Albright threw four touchdown passes, including a 32-yard scoring toss to big-play receiver Nick Kimball on a 4th-down-and-29 play.
Kimball finished with two receiving touchdowns while tailback Chris Owens registered scoring runs of 1 yard and 65 yards.
Carpinteria, which won last week 35-28 over Santa Ynez despite the quarterback problems, was led by Richie Gallardo. The junior scored the Warriors’ lone touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.
That cut Nimpomo’s lead to 14-6 but the Titans immediately responded with another touchdown and quickly built a 35-point lead before the second quarter was done.
Nipomo improves to 2-1 on the season with only a 35-34 setback to Lompoc in the way of undefeated status.
Carpinteria is 1-1 and looks ahead to its home opener next Friday when the Warriors will host Oak Park in a non-league game.
