Westmont’s Wilton Quintero of Temple City and Josh Glover of Norwich, England have been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week. Quintero received the offensive award while Glover earned the defensive recognition.
The Warriors (4-2, 1-0 GSAC) posted two wins last week, defeating Marymount 3-2 on Tuesday and William Jessup 5-0 on Saturday.
Against Marymount, Quintero scored a goal in the 65th minute. Rodrigo Diaz-Valdes received a throw-in from the left sideline and passed the ball to Tanner Wolf. The junior midfielder in turn passed the ball to Quintero who fired a bullet from 28 yards away. The ball bounced underneath the Mariners’ keeper and into the net.
Two minutes into the game against William Jessup, Quintero scored the goal winner on a penalty kick. In the 75th minute, Quintero recorded an assist when he fed Diaz-Valdes the ball as the latter was charging toward the opponent’s net.
Glover was awarded the win in both games tallying five saves in a total of 180 minutes of work. Glover has posted a goals-against average of 0.88 this season in five games.
The Warriors play again on Tuesday when they travel to San Diego Christian for a 2:30 p.m. game. Westmont’s next home contest will be on Saturday against The Master’s. The game is scheduled for kick-off at noon.
