John Lopez scored his second goal of the game in the 81st minute on Friday night and Oxnard went on to post a 2-1 men’s soccer win over SBCC at La Playa Stadium.
Lopez got the first-place Condors (5-3-1, 4-0 WSC) on the board first with a goal in the 41st minute. Haydn Dickinson, a freshman from London, England, tied it at 1-1 by heading in a corner kick from Aaron Aaberg in the 72nd minute.
“I was moving in the box and I got a good delivery from Aaron,” said Dickinson. “One of their players missed it, so I just got the rebound.”
The Vaqueros (2-6, 1-2) outshot the Condors 15-8, including 7-5 in shots on goal. SBCC had six corners with four coming in the second half.
“It was a competitive game and we had our chances,” said eighth-year head coach John Sisterson. “No. 7 (Lopez) is a very good player and he got two balls past us. Overall, we competed very well.
“I was happy to see us come back and tie it up. Then they got a ball over the top and scored on a breakaway. We’ve got to deal with those situations and close them down.”
SBCC will host Glendale on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
