Playing their first game without senior captain Ozie LeSage, Providence’s girls volleyball team nearly knocked off Channel Islands in a 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 15-8 non-league decision.
LeSage broke a finger in the Patriots’ last match.
“The team rallied together,” reported Patriots head coach Laura Newton. “I saw a new level of intensity and desire to win from our team. They fought hard tonight.”
Maddy Niessen was close to a double-double with 10 kills and nine assists. Katie Hodson’s nine kills were second on the team in that category while Cody Niessen’s seven kills and 11 assists made a strong impact. The back-row play from Willow Brown and Meghan Vincent factored into the close match as well.
Providence falls to 5-3 overall but remains 2-0 in league play.
